A lithium-nickel composite oxide positive electrode material, wherein cross-section observation is performed by using a scanning electron microscope, after the cross section of a lithium-nickel composite oxide is divided into four equal parts according to the radius length, the measured porosity of each cross section is 3% to 8%, and the total porosity of the cross section is 3% to 8%. A preparation method for the lithium-nickel composite oxide positive electrode material comprises: mixing hydroxide of nickel-cobalt-manganese with M-containing sulfate and then performing low-temperature multi-step pre-sintering to obtain a pre-sintered precursor; mixing a lithium source with the pre-sintered precursor and then performing high-temperature sintering to obtain a primary sintered substrate; washing the primary sintered substrate with deionized water and drying same, and then mixing with a coating agent for sintering, so as to obtain the lithium-nickel composite oxide positive electrode material. The lithium-nickel composite oxide positive electrode material of the present invention is rich in internal pores, uniform in size and uniform in distribution, and is beneficial to infiltration of an electrolyte, so that the positive electrode material is in full contact with the electrolyte, a lithium ion transmission path is shortened, the discharge capacity of the positive electrode material is increased, the internal resistance of a lithium battery is reduced, and better rate performance is achieved.
