Abstract:
The present invention relates to a thrust foil air bearing, which can be used in an apparatus having a stationary part and a rotating part rotating about a centerline relative to the stationary part, the thrust foil air bearing comprising: a lower plate that can be coupled to the stationary part so as not to be relatively movable; an intermediate plate disposed on the upper surface of the lower plate and having a bump foil capable of elastic deformation; and an upper plate disposed on the upper surface of the intermediate plate to face the rotating part and having a top foil disposed over the bump foil and capable of contacting the rotating part, wherein the top foil has a leading edge disposed on the upstream side relative to the flow of air and provided so as to be movable downward toward the lower plate by means of air pressure generated by the rotation of the rotating part. The invention has the effect of increasing air pressure generated on the upper surface of the top foil when the rotating part is rotated, so that a greater load can be carried.
