Abstract:
Provided is a reciprocating compressor that can avoid an excessive pressure rise due to liquid compression without burdening a suction valve and an ejection valve. This reciprocating compressor is provided with: a cylinder (120) in which a suction valve (124) and an ejection valve (123) are provided; a piston (131) that reciprocates inside the cylinder (120) and defines a compression room (A1) where a refrigerant is compressed with the cylinder (120); a suction room (A3) that is connected to the compression room (A1) via the suction valve (124) and takes in the refrigerant to be sucked by the compression room (A1); and a relief valve (125) that is provided in the cylinder (120), connects the compression room (A1) and the suction room (A3), and is opened when the pressure inside the compression room (A1) becomes a prescribed value or more.
