Abstract:
This negative electrode active material for secondary batteries contains an intermetallic compound that has a cage structure; the cage structure is composed of at least one first atom that is arranged within a cage, and a plurality of second atoms that are arranged in the form of a cage so as to surround the first atom; the first atom is a zirconium atom; and the plurality of second atoms include from 8 to 16 silicon atoms.
