Abstract:
The purpose of the present disclosure is to provide a method that can form recycled pulp fiber, wherein the method suppresses the residual presence of highly water absorbent polymer and residues thereof and suppresses changes in properties in comparison to bringing about oxidative degradation of highly water absorbent polymer using only an oxidant. This method produces recycled pulp fiber from a mixture obtained from hygiene products and comprising pulp fiber and highly water absorbent polymer, wherein the method characteristically comprises: a recycled pulp fiber formation step for forming recycled pulp fiber by supplying an oxidant and ultraviolet radiation to an aqueous solution comprising the aforesaid mixture in order to oxidatively degrade the highly water absorbent polymer and dissolve the oxidatively degraded highly water absorbent polymer in the aqueous solution; and a recycled pulp fiber recovery step for recovering the recycled pulp fiber.
