Abstract:
A multi-row tapered roller bearing is provided at a reduced manufacturing cost. This method for manufacturing a bearing ring for a multi-row tapered roller bearing comprises: a molded body preparation step; a heated area formation step; a cooling step; and a removal step. In the molded body preparation step, a molded body is prepared, said molded body being composed of steel and having an annular groove (19), the bottom surface of which will become a rolling surface (11) of the bearing ring, formed in an outer circumferential surface thereof. In the heated area formation step, an induction heating coil that inductively heats the molded body and is positioned so as to face one section of the groove is relatively rotated along the circumferential direction of the groove to form a heated area, which includes the bottom surface of the groove (19) and which has been heated to a temperature of A1 or higher. In the cooling step, the entire heated area is simultaneously cooled to a temperature of Ms or lower. This method for manufacturing a bearing ring further comprises a step in which the molded body is held in a state in which heating has been stopped, said step occurring after the heated area formation step and before the cooling step.
