Abstract:
This lubrication state estimation method, with which the lubrication state of the sliding surfaces of two relatively moving objects is estimated, includes acquiring a first indicator and a second indicator, and detecting that the lubrication state of the sliding surfaces has changed from fluid lubrication to mixed lubrication on the basis of a correlation between positivity/negativity of the rate of change over time in the first indicator and positivity/negativity of the rate of change over time in the second indicator. The first indicator is the friction coefficient of the sliding surfaces or an index that correlates with the friction coefficient, and the second index is a physical quantity S* expressed by S*=ηv/F (where η is the viscosity of lubricant interposed between the sliding surfaces, v is the sliding speed of the sliding surfaces, and F is the load pressing on the sliding surfaces) or an index that correlates with the physical quantity S*.
