Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of obtaining a friction material which satisfies a law on the content of copper components and, despite this, ensures the required effectiveness, fade resistance, wear resistance, and strength of friction material/back plate adhesion and which has a satisfactory product appearance and is inexpensive. The friction material is for use as disc brake pads and is obtained by molding a composition of a friction material which is a non-asbestos-organic (NAO) material containing no copper ingredient. The friction material composition contains an inorganic friction control material (a) that contains no titanic acid salt and has an average particle diameter of 0.5-20 µm and a Mohs hardness of 5-8, a porous inorganic friction control material (b) having a microporous structure, and a carbonaceous lubricant (c), the amounts of (a), (b), and (c) being 8-15 vol%, 1-3 vol%, and 5-10 vol%, respectively, relative to the total amount of the friction material composition. The carbonaceous lubricant contains coke in an amount of 2-4 vol% relative to the total amount of the friction material composition, the coke having an average particle diameter of 300-800 µm. In the friction material composition, the contents of (a), (b), and (c) satisfy the following relationship. 1.0≤((a)+(b))/(c)≤2.5
