Abstract:
A foil bearing (20, 30) comprising: a top foil (21, 31) that has a bearing surface (210, 340) opposing a rotating body (12), that extends in a circumferential direction, and that has a fixed end (21a, 34a) at one end thereof in the circumferential direction and a free end (21b, 34b) at the other end thereof in the circumferential direction; and a thin-plate-like back foil (22, 32) that elastically supports the top foil. The top foil has: a connection portion (H1, H2) that connects, at a location between the fixed end and the free end, a first side on which the bearing surface is located relative to the top foil and a second side on which the back foil is located relative to the top foil; and a cut portion (N1, N2) that reduces the thickness of the top foil so as to promote the deformation of the top foil. The cut portion is formed on the second side, but not on the first side.
