Abstract:
In order to provide a device and method for breaking a connecting rod, the device and method making it possible to form regulated breakage surfaces at an excellent yield rate when breaking a large-diameter section of a connecting rod in two, the present invention: comprises clampers 510, 520 for pressing bolt seat surfaces 921, 922 of a large-diameter section 920 of a connecting rod 900 before the large-diameter section is broken, the connecting rod being mounted in a breaking device, and for restricting movement of the large-diameter section in a direction orthogonal to the center-axis direction, the large-diameter section being broken in two during breaking; and additionally comprises a clamper pressing position regulation mechanism 600 that, in a state in which the connecting rod is attached to the device for breaking a connecting rod, restricts movement of the clampers so that the position at which the clampers press the large-diameter section remains at a position that conforms to a nominal value of manufacturing tolerance of the connecting rod before breaking of the large-diameter section.
