Abstract:
This chain tensioner comprises: a cylinder (9); a plunger (10); a return spring (29) that biases the plunger (10) in a direction of causing the plunger (10) to project from one end of the cylinder (9); a pressure chamber (18) formed in the cylinder (9); a check valve (19) that allows only the flow of oil from inside the plunger (10) to the pressure chamber (18); a leak gap (25) that causes hydraulic oil to leak from the pressure chamber (18); an oil feed passage (28) that introduces oil to inside the cylinder (9) from outside; a communication path (31) formed in the plunger (10) so as to communicate between the leak gap (25) and the inside of the plunger (10); and an air vent structure (14) that discharges air (a) in the plunger (10) to the outside. The air vent structure (14) is provided by being offset upward from the axial center of the plunger (10).
