Abstract:
A vehicle headlight (1) comprises: a light source (20); a meta-lens (30) that has a meta-region through which light (L) emitted from the light source (20) passes and in which are arranged a plurality of nano-structures (35) that have a width smaller than the longest wavelength of the light (L) emitted from the light source (20); and a projection lens (50) through which light (L) that is output from the meta-lens (30) passes. The meta-lens (30) decreases the divergence angle of light (L) which enters the meta-region from the light source (20), and outputs the light (L). In a view of the light source (20) from the projection lens (50) side and through the meta-region, an image (20') of the light source (20) is seen at a position further away than the position of the light source (20), and appears smaller than an image (20") of the light source (20) as seen when, instead of the meta-lens (30), a convex lens (30") is disposed in a manner so as output light (L) from the light source (20) at the same divergence angle as light output from the meta-lens (30) and when the light source (20) is viewed from the projection lens (50) side and through the convex lens (30").
