Abstract:
A method for producing a cycloolefin copolymer is provided by which the cycloolefin copolymer can be efficiently produced by copolymerizing monomers comprising a norbornene monomer and ethylene while inhibiting the formation of polyethylene-like impurities. Monomers comprising a norbornene monomer and ethylene are polymerized in the presence of both a metal-containing catalyst having a specific structure and an organic solvent including a halogenated hydrocarbon. The content of the halogenated hydrocarbon in the organic solvent is preferably 0.01-5 vol% in terms of volume proportion at 20°C.
