Abstract:

Provided is a cyclic olefin copolymer production method that enables efficient production of a cyclic olefin copolymer through copolymerization of a monomer including ethylene and a norbornene monomer, while suppressing generation of polyethylene-like impurities.　Said method involves polymerizing a norbornene monomer and a monomer including ethylene in the presence of a metallocene catalyst including a cyclopentadiene ligand that is substituted with a trialkylsilyl group or an alkyl group optionally substituted with a halogen atom and that satisfies a specific condition regarding substituents.
