Abstract:
This crossword puzzle generation device comprises a target region setting unit 1 that sets a target region for arranging one word having a given number of letters on a board which does not have black squares in an initial stage, and a word arranging unit 2 that arranges, in the set target region, one word having the given number of letters fitting within the region length of the target region. It is made possible to arrange a greater number of words by sequentially arranging words while leaving leeway for the region in which the next word can be freely arranged to be as wide as possible, by setting the target region to a position that maximizes the width of a free region, among a remaining region that does not include the target region and an already present region in which words are already arranged, in which it is possible to arrange a next word without restrictions due to already present words on intersecting squares and neighboring squares.
