Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a worm-gear speed reducer that readily manages, to a high degree, both the suppression of the occurrence of abnormal noise when torque has been input in reverse, and the ensuring of torque transmission efficiency during normal operation. [Solution] The present invention comprises a flat torsion spring 6 that urges an inner-diameter-side member 5 toward a worm-wheel 3 side. The flat torsion spring 6: is disposed, within the intervening area between the outer peripheral surface of the inner-diameter-side member 5 and the inner peripheral surface of the outer-diameter-side member 9, to the side farther from the worm wheel 3 with regard to the direction of urging by the flat torsion spring 6; has a load point P that is a part in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the inner-diameter-side member 5, and a fulcrum S that, within the part in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the outer-diameter-side member 9, is a portion which is present in a position nearest to the load point P; and exhibits nonlinear spring characteristics of a kind in which the spring constant increases due to change in the position of the fulcrum S so as to approach the load point P as the amount of deflection with regard to a first direction increases.
