The present invention makes it possible to use a soil removal plate to rapidly level ground even when leveling very rugged land. A work support system 1 which supports an operation by an operator operating a work machine 2, comprises: a detection device 11 that is held on a soil removal plate 9 of the work machine 2, and that acquires orientation information of the soil removal plate 9 via a sensor and outputs said information; a controller 12 that is held by a body 5 of the work machine 2, acquires orientation information of the body 5 via a sensor, acquires the orientation information of the soil removal plate 9, and transmits the orientation information of soil removal plate 9 and the orientation information of the body 5; a portable information terminal device 3 that acquires the orientation information transmitted from the controller 12 and outputs support information; and a reporting device 14 that reports the support information to the operator. The portable information terminal device 3 detects the tilt of the body 5 in the front-rear direction on the basis of the orientation information of the soil removal plate 9 and/or the orientation information of the body 5, detects the height of the soil removal plate 9 from the tilt, and generates support information.
