Abstract:
This wave gear device (1) is provided with: a wave generator (2) which is made to rotate; a cylindrical external gear (3) which is made to deform elastically into an elliptical shape as a result of being fitted to the wave generator (2); and an internal gear (4) which meshes with the external gear (3) which has been made to deform elastically into the elliptical shape, on the long axis of the external gear (3). A cam (8) of the wave generator (2) has, formed thereon, a pair of long axis-side elliptical arc surfaces (16) and a pair of short axis-side elliptical arc surfaces (18) which slide along the inner circumferential surface (3a) of the external gear (3). Long axis-side arc surfaces (17) are smoothly connected to both sides of each of the long axis-side elliptical arc surfaces (16) of the cam (8) in the circumferential direction. Furthermore, short axis-side arc surfaces (20) are smoothly connected to both sides of each of the short axis-side elliptical arc surfaces (18) of the cam (8) in the circumferential direction. Each set of two arc surfaces (17, 20) form substantially wedge-shaped gaps in conjunction with the inner circumferential surface (3a) of the external gear (3).
