A compound planetary gear train (25) in an automatic transmission (20) increases the speed of dynamic force transmitted to a third carrier (23c) when a third sun gear (23s) and a fourth sun gear (24s) have been fixed by a brake (B2) so as to be unrotatable, and transmits said force to a third ring gear (23r) and a fourth carrier (24c) acting as first output elements and to a fourth ring gear (24r) acting as a second output element. A clutch (C3) selectively connecting the fourth ring gear (24r) in the compound planetary gear train (25) to first and second sun gears (21s, 22s) in first and second planetary gear mechanisms (21, 22) and a clutch (C4) selectively connecting the third ring gear (23r) and the fourth carrier (24c) in the compound planetary gear train (25) to the first and second sun gears (21s, 22s) are arranged further on the compound planetary gear train (25) side in the axial direction than the first and second planetary gear mechanisms (21, 22).
