Abstract:
Disclosed is a torque converter for a vehicle capable of extending the operational range of a lock-up clutch up to the full engine rotational rate by increasing the angle of twist of the overall torsional damper when the lock-up clutch is in operation. A torque converter for a vehicle according to the present invention comprises a lock-up clutch and a torsional damper, the torsional damper comprising: a drive plate for receiving driving power from the lock-up clutch; a plurality of driving power-transmitting members each provided with a first hinge coupling part which is hinge-coupled to one end of the drive plate; a cover plate provided with second hinge-coupling parts to which the middle sections of the driving power-transmitting members are hinge-coupled; spring supporting members disposed on the cover plate and each provided with a third hinge-coupling part for hinge-coupling to one end of the driving power-transmitting members; a plurality of springs elastically supported at one end by the spring supporting part and disposed on the cover plate along the circumferential direction thereof; and a driven plate for elastically supporting the other ends of the springs and for receiving driving power.
