Abstract:
Provided is a thermal chain reaction determination method for a battery pack that comprises: a plurality of cells inside the battery pack; a pressure contribution component that contributes to a pressure change in the battery pack; at least one pressure sensor that detects pressure in the battery pack; and at least one voltage sensor that detects voltage in the cells. This thermal chain reaction determination method includes: detecting pressure in the battery pack by the pressure sensor; and detecting voltage in the cells by the voltage sensor. The method also includes: determining that, when the change amount or the change rate of the detected pressure in the battery pack is larger than a predetermined value, the pressure in the battery pack is abnormal; and determining that, when the change amount or the change rate of the detected pressure in the cells is larger than a predetermined value, the pressure in the cells is abnormal. Further, the method includes determining that thermal chain reaction has occurred, when both of the pressures in the battery pack and the cells are abnormal.
