Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system and method for preventing the spread of radioactive substances in order to deal with severe accidents involving steam generator tube rupture and, more specifically, to a method for: using an open-type collecting device to effectively deal with the leakage of steam that is discharged with great force when a severe accident involving steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) occurs, as well as the leakage of radioactive substances accompanying the leakage of steam; and using such an open-type collecting device to effectively collect the discharged radioactive substances and prevent the spread of the radioactive substances. According to the present invention, provided is a system and method for preventing the spread of radioactive substances, in which an open-type collecting device not in close contact with a leak region is used, in the event of an SGTR accident caused by a severe accident, to allow high temperature and high pressure steam that does not contain leaked radioactive substances to flow into the atmosphere when a leakage occurs, and then collect and treat relatively low temperature and low pressure steam that is leaking and contains radioactive substances. Thus, the system and method make it possible to effectively collect and treat radioactive substances without installing a large capacity collecting device that has very high cost and equipment requirements to collect leaked high temperature and high pressure steam.
