Abstract:
The present invention can sufficiently cool a start clutch by using transmission oil when a vehicle starts on a sloped road, and thereby, suppresses deterioration of durability of the start clutch caused by heat. In the present invention, an automatic transmission (AT) is provided between a driving source (Eng, MG) and drive wheels (RL, RR). The automatic transmission (AT) includes a plurality of frictional engagement elements (C1-C3, B1-B4) for switching among a plurality of gears. As a start clutch, one of the plurality of frictional engagement elements which are engaged when a vehicle starts, is brought into slip engagement. This start clutch control method comprises: determining, when a vehicle starts, whether or not the vehicle is starting on an inclined road (100); selecting, when the vehicle is determined to being starting on the inclined road (100), a frictional engagement element to be disposed at such a position as to be immersed in transmission oil (ATF) from among the plurality of frictional engagement elements (C1-C3, B1-B4) which are engaged when the vehicle starts; and bringing the selected frictional engagement element, as a rearward start clutch, into slip engagement.
