Disclosed are a software updating method and device. The method comprises the following steps: obtaining a server address and software version information solidified in a mobile terminal, the software version information comprising a mobile terminal model, an international mobile device identity code, a serial number and a hardware version parameter; detecting whether the mobile terminal needs to update software, and if yes, connecting a corresponding server according to the server address; detecting whether the electric quantity of the mobile terminal battery is below a set threshold, if yes, ending a program, and if not, continuing the steps of downloading latest software from the server according to the software version information, and installing and updating same; and downloading the latest software from the server according to the software version information, and installing and updating same. The present invention can conveniently achieve wireless software updating, and avoid using a data line to perform transmission, and when a user changes his/her number, the present invention can avoid being incapable of updating software since the user changes his/her number.
