Abstract:
Provided is a sliding member having a hard coating with excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance even in high-temperature environments in the air. This sliding member 100 comprises: a substrate 10; and an amorphous carbon film 20 which is formed on the substrate 10, the surface 20A of the amorphous carbon film acting as a sliding surface. The amorphous carbon film 20 is characterized by having a constituent composition containing at least 2 atm% but no more than 20 atm% of silicon, at least 2 atm% but no more than 15 atm% of boron, and at least 0 atm% but less than 15 atm% nitrogen, with the remainder being made up of carbon, and essentially free of hydrogen, while the total quantity of silicon and boron is at least 5atm% but no more than 35 atm%.
