Abstract:
[Problem] To provide: a sliding member which is equipped with a coating film having constant and stable chipping resistance and wear resistance and also having excellent peeling resistance (adhesiveness); and the coating film. [Solution] A sliding member 10 comprising a base material 11 and a coating film 1 arranged on a sliding surface 16 of the base material 11, wherein, when a cross section of the coating film 1 is observed as a bright field TEM image, repeating units each comprising a black hard carbon layer B which is displayed relatively black and a white hard carbon layer W which is displayed relatively white are laminated at a total thickness of 1 to 50 μm in the thickness direction Y, and wherein, in a black hard carbon layer B and a white hard carbon layer W which are adjacent to each other, the hardness of the white hard carbon layer W is higher than that of the black hard carbon layer B and the [sp2/(sp2+sp3)] ratio in the white hard carbon layer W is larger than that in the black hard carbon layer B.
