Abstract:
A shift range device (1) is provided with: a motor (10) serving as a power source for switching the shift position; an energization unit (41) for energizing the motor; and a monitoring unit (72) for monitoring for an abnormal state in which a magnetic field that is not able to initiate rotation of the rotor of the motor or a holding magnetic field for stopping the rotation generated in the rotor cannot be obtained. When the monitoring unit has determined by means of the monitoring that the abnormal state has occurred, the energization unit is made to stop energizing the motor.
