Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a shaft (1) for a bearing provided with an outer peripheral surface that includes a track surface (side surface) with which rolling elements (2) are in contact, the shaft (1) for a bearing being configured from steel containing at least 0.7% carbon, and having a nitrogen-rich layer (1a) formed on the track surface. The absolute value of the compressive residual stress in the surface of the nitrogen-rich layer (1a) (the surface of a hardened layer (1b) formed by shot peening in the side surface of the shaft (1) for a bearing) is 600-1700 MPa. The present invention thereby makes it possible to increase the life of a shaft for a bearing.
