Abstract:
This disclosure describes methods of discovery and connection management in a mesh network. In the described methods, a first node in the mesh network responds to a discovery request for a destination node by either sending a discovery response to the requesting node if the first node has a route to the destination node, or sending a discovery request for the destination node to at least one neighbour node if the first node does not have a route to the destination node. A node in the mesh network responds to a discovery response or discovery announcement by updating its routing table, and potentially by sending the discovery response or discovery announcement onward to its neighbour nodes. After determining a route to a destination node, for example, from a discovery response or discovery announcement, a node in the mesh network may establish a connection with the destination node and/or one or more neighbour nodes. A node in the mesh network that has a direct connection to a node of a cellular network may announce to other nodes in the mesh network that it has such a direct connection.
