Disclosed is a rotary sensor easy to manufacture, having good assembly workability and not prone to misassembly. A rotary sensor (1) is provided with a rotor (4) which holds a detected body (45) made of a conductive material and which rotates together with a stand (101) (a rotating body) when this rotates; a coil (31) the distance between which and the detected body (45) varies with rotation of the rotor (4); an integrated circuit (32) which detects the detected body (45) from conductance change of the coil (31) generated by means of the changing distance between the detected body (45) and the coil (31); a housing (2) which houses the detection unit (3) provided with the coil (31) and the integrated circuit (32) and which is attached to the vehicle body (the fixed unit); and a holding means (7) which holds the rotor (4) in a state capable of free rotation relative to the housing (2). The holding means (7) comprises an engaging convex portion (43) of a holding cylinder (42) provided on the rotor (4), and an engaging concave portion which is provided on a body (2a) (the housing (2)) and is engaged by the engaging convex portion (43).
