Abstract:
A roller bearing in which contact surface pressure between an inner ring or a shaft and rollers and that between an outer ring and the rollers are kept low to reduce vibration and noise and in which axial movement of a retainer by a skew of the rollers and a tilt between the outer ring and the inner ring or the shaft are prevented to extend the rolling fatigue life of the bearing. The roller bearing has a ring-shaped retainer (3) having a pair of annular sections (5) and circumferentially arranged columns (6) that connect the annular sections (5) and form a pocket (3a) between each adjacent pair of the columns, and also has the rollers (2) retained in the pockets (3a) of the retainer (3). The rollers (2) are in rolling contact with an inner ring-side peripheral surface (4a) that is the outer peripheral surface of the inner ring or the shaft (4) and with an outer ring-side peripheral surface (1a) of the outer ring (1). The annular sections (5) of the inner and outer peripheral surfaces of the retainer (3) are made to be in sliding contact with the inner ring-side peripheral surface (4a) and the outer ring-side peripheral surface (1a) to function as slide bearings. A retaining ring (7A) for limiting axial movement of the retainer (3) is provided on the outer ring (1), or the annular sections (5) of the retainer (3), or the inner ring, or the shaft (4).
