Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of establishing a practical technique by which recycled tow-fiber bundles can be more stably kneaded, for reuse, together with a matrix resin and molded objects having more stable properties can be produced.　The recycled-carbon-fiber bundle composition according to the present invention comprises: recycled-carbon-fiber bundles taken out of molded carbon-fiber-reinforced heat-cured resins; and a surface modifier having a second chemical functional group, which exhibits a chemical affinity for a first chemical functional group, which is present on the surface of the carbon fibers. The recycled-carbon-fiber bundles are tows of carbon fibers bundled with amorphous carbon. The recycled-carbon-fiber bundle composition contains the surface modifier in an amount of 0.1-1 mass% with respect to the whole composition, which is taken as 100 mass%. The recycled-carbon-fiber bundle composition, when examined after having been heated under the conditions of 600°C and 60 minutes, has a residual carbon content of 1-5 mass%.
