Abstract:
A reciprocating engine (1) has a piston ring (5), a piston ring (7), and a gas passage (15). The piston ring (7) forms an annular gas chamber (6) between itself and the piston ring (5) and is adjacent to the piston ring (5) such that a pressure receiving area at a side surface (8) of a piston (3) in the annular gas chamber (6) is larger at a thrust side (10) than at a non-thrust side (9). The gas passage (15) connects the annular gas chamber (6) to a combustion chamber (2).
