Provided is a pulverization device which pulverizes a pulp sheet to produce pulp fibers, which is capable of suppressing defects such as burning of the pulp fibers and failure to pulverize the pulp sheet, and which is compact and has high processing performance. A pulverization device (100) is provided with a plurality of rotating blades (122) that are attached to a rotation shaft (124) and that rotate along with the rotation shaft to pulverize a pulp sheet. A pulverization space index I [m3/kg] is defined by the formula (V×N×60 [min])÷Amax, where V [m3] is the volume of a void space in an imaginary cylinder, N [rpm] is the rotational speed of the rotation shaft, and Amax [kg/h] is the maximum pulverization amount. The radius of the imaginary cylinder is the distance from the center of the rotation shaft to an end part of the rotating blade which is disposed furthest from the center of the rotation shaft in the radial direction of the rotation shaft. The height of the imaginary cylinder is the length of the section in which the plurality of rotating blades are disposed in the axial direction of the rotation shaft. V, N, and Amax are set such that the pulverization space index I is not less than 12.0.
