Abstract:
Provided are protective eyewear having a high light shielding effect, and a method for protecting eyes using the eyewear. Protective eyewear 1 according to one aspect of the present invention comprises: a light receiving unit 2 that receives laser light; a light shielding control unit 3 that determines a light shielding cycle on the basis of an output from the light receiving unit; and a light shielding lens unit 4 that includes a liquid crystal display device 41 for shielding light at the light shielding cycle determined by the light shielding control unit. A method according to another aspect of the present invention for protecting eyes during surgery using protective eyewear comprises: a step for having a wearer wear protective eyewear including a liquid crystal display device; a step for receiving laser light and determining a light shielding cycle for the laser light; and a step for shielding light with the liquid crystal display device in accordance with the light shielding cycle.
