A power conversion device has a power switching circuit that has a plurality of serial circuits for connecting in series to a switching element for an upper arm and a switching element for a lower arm, receives DC power, generates AC power, and outputs the generated AC power to a permanent magnet motor; a control circuit that generates a control signal for controlling the conduction or cutting off of the switching elements in response to the calculation results of repeated calculations of the switching element states in each specified control period based on input information; and a driver circuit that generates a drive signal that causes the switching elements to conduct or interrupts the conduction based on the control signal from the control circuit. The control circuit predicts the locus of the d-axis magnetic flux and the locus of the q-axis magnetic flux, and based on the prediction results, calculates the switching element states so that the d-axis magnetic flux is within the specified d-axis magnetic flux variation range and the q-axis magnetic flux is within the specified q-axis magnetic flux variation range.
