A positioning system and a method, which are used for providing positioning information with different precisions, can meet positioning requirements of different application functions, and meanwhile, reduces the hardware cost. The positioning system comprises a first GNSS antenna (11), a vehicle-mounted communication apparatus (12), and a controller (13). The first GNSS antenna (11) is used for acquiring satellite data and transmitting the satellite data to the vehicle-mounted communication apparatus (12); the vehicle-mounted communication apparatus (12) is used for determining first positioning information according to the satellite data and/or first IMU data, and transmitting the satellite data to the controller (13); and the controller (13) is used for determining second positioning information according to the satellite data and second IMU data, the precision of the second positioning information being higher than that of the first positioning information. The positioning system can provide both low-precision positioning and high-precision positioning, and can meet the positioning requirements for different application functions in a vehicle-mounted scenario. Moreover, only a set of GNSS antennas need to be designed, thereby reducing the hardware cost.
