Abstract:
In the present invention, a diamond single phase is used as the basic structure in a polycrystalline diamond. The polycrystalline diamond comprises a plurality of crystal grains, and contains boron, hydrogen, and oxygen, the remainder comprising carbon and trace impurities. The boron disperses in the crystal grains at the atomic level and at least 90 atom% thereof is present in an isolated substitutional form. The hydrogen and the oxygen are present in the crystal grains as isolated substitutional or interstitial atoms. The crystal grains have a diameter of 500 nm or less, and the surface of the polycrystalline diamond is covered by a protective film.
