Abstract:
Provided is a piston ring which can retain, over a long period, the excellent effect of preventing aluminum adhesion in a high-power engine. At least one of the upper and lower surfaces of a piston ring is coated with a polyimide coating in which hard particles have been dispersed. As the hard particles, use is made of alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, cubic boron nitride, diamond, or the like. The hard particles have an average particle diameter of 0.01-5 µm, and the coating has a thickness of 2-30 µm.
