Abstract:
Disclosed are: a photoelectric conversion element which has high conversion efficiency and excellent durability; and a photoelectrochemical cell. Specifically disclosed is a photoelectric conversion element which has a laminated structure that comprises: a photosensitive body which has a semiconductor fine particle layer wherein a dye is adsorbed on a conductive supporting body; a charge transfer body; and a counter electrode. The photoelectric conversion element is characterized in that the dye has a structure represented by general formula (1) and the charge transfer body has an electrolyte composition that contains a heterocyclic quaternary salt compound. M(LL1)m1(LL2)m2(X)m3·Cl general formula (1) (In general formula (1), M represents a metal atom; LL1 represents a bidentate or tridentate ligand having a specific structure; and LL2 represents a bidentate or tridentate ligand having a specific structure.)
