Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing an optical film having excellent ultraviolet ray absorption properties and also having excellent properties of aligning a liquid crystal compound in an optically anisotropic layer. The optical film according to the present invention comprises an alignment film and an optically anisotropic layer arranged adjacent to the alignment film, in which the optically anisotropic layer is formed using a composition containing a liquid crystal compound, the alignment film is formed using a composition containing polyvinyl alcohol or modified polyvinyl alcohol and an ultraviolet ray absorber, the ultraviolet ray absorber can be dissolved in water in an amount of 1 g or more relative to 100 g of water at 25°C, the maximum absorption wavelength of the ultraviolet ray absorber is positioned in a range from 320 to 400 nm, and the ultraviolet ray absorber has an aromatic ring and a hydrophilic group.
