Abstract:
Provided are: a noise reduction method using a lubricating liquid crystal compound (a liquid crystal grease) which is capable of preventing the generation of abnormal noise between a friction member and a pressed member and stabilizing friction properties; a friction clutch device; and a friction brake device. A friction brake device 70 to be used in a winding machine, which comprises rotatable friction members 72a and 72b and pressed members 71, 73 and 35 being capable of generating a frictional force between the friction members 72a and 72b, wherein the friction members 72a and 72b are impregnated with a calamitic liquid crystal compound 1 aligned in the smectic liquid crystal state, and the calamitic liquid crystal compound 1, which is in the liquid crystal state showing smectic phase, exists within the friction members 72a and 72b and between the friction members 72a and 72b and the pressed members 71, 73 and 35.
