There is disclosed a digital device based on the UPnP standard for reconstructing a device description in accordance with a configuration change in the digital device such as a connection of extended peripheral device and transmitting the reconstructed device description to another digital device for reflection. A communication method of the digital device is also disclosed. The digital device references a device information table holding information, stored in a memory, on a peripheral device of the digital device and judges whether the change relates to the peripheral device in the digital device. When the judgment results in that the change relates to the peripheral device, the device description is acquired and the device name of the peripheral device relating to the change is acquired from the device information table. According to the device name acquired, the device description is updated by performing processing of the information relating to the device description. The digital device transmits to a network a new advertisement message describing information indicating the location containing the updated description such as URL.
