Title:
METHOD FOR SELECTIVELY STRIPPING THORIUM USING SALT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2019/221323
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for forming an extract from rare earth mineral leach residue and stripping thorium, the method for selectively stripping thorium using a salt comprising the steps of: (a) forming a leachate by adding an acidic solution and adding a reducing agent to leach residue; (b) solvent-extracting thorium by adding, to the leachate, an oil phase comprising an extractant; and (c) stripping the thorium by adding hydrochloric acid and a salt to the thorium-extracted oil phase. Thus, compared to when thorium is stripped using hydrochloric acid, the efficiency of the stripping process may be increased by reducing the amount of hydrochloric acid that is used, and a harmful effect on the environment may be prevented.
