Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing lithium of very high purity, whereby said method comprises a step in which lithium oxide compounds are thermally reduced in vacuum by means of aluminum. According to the invention, a mixture of lithium oxide compounds is prepared and an aluminum oxide or hydroxide is added to such a mixture, whereby the molar ratio of lithium oxide to aluminum oxide is comprised between more than 1 and 5. Preferably, lithium oxide compounds of the type Li¿2?O nAl¿2?O¿3? mH¿2?O fCO¿2?, are used, in which n=0$m(X)5, m=0$m(X)11 and f=0$m(X)1. The device for carrying out the said method is comprised of an oven (1) containing at least one retort (2) having a reduction area (3) and a condensation area (4). The diameter of the retort (2) in the condensation area (4) is larger than the diameter thereof in the reduction area (3), whereby the output port (5) is located in the bottom part of the condensation area (4) and communicates with a crucible located in a cold area.
