Abstract:
A method for forging an outer joint member 2, 72 of a constant-velocity universal joint 1, 71 in which respective track grooves 7, 77, 9, 79 of the outer joint member 2, 72 and an inner joint member 3, 73 have arc-like ball trajectory center lines X, Y having a center of curvature without an offset in an axial direction with respect to a joint center O, where a plane including the ball trajectory center lines X, Y and the joint center O is inclined in a circumferential direction with respect to the joint axis, the direction of inclination being opposite between the pair comprising the track groove 7, 77 of the outer joint member 2, 72 and the track groove 9, 79 of the inner joint member 3, 73. The forging method is characterized by comprising press-fitting a tubular portion W1b of a preliminary material W1 for the outer joint member 2, 72, which material includes a shaft portion W1c with the tubular portion W1b formed at one end of the shaft portion W1c, into a die hole 23a of a die 23, and performing ironing-molding with an expandable punch set T fitted on an inner peripheral surface of the tubular portion W1b. The punch set T is provided with at least a plurality of punches 20, and a punch base 21 for reciprocally guiding the punches 20. The method is also characterized in that each of the punches 20 has a pair of molding faces 27A, 27B for molding adjacent track grooves 7, 77.
