Abstract:
A water treatment method in which metal-ion-containing water is subjected to alkali coagulation/sedimentation at pH 8 or higher, in which a cationic polymeric coagulant and an anionic polymeric coagulant are added successively in this order and, consequently, it becomes possible to produce clearer treated water compared with a case where only an anionic polymeric coagulant is added. A water treatment method comprising the steps of: (i) adding an alkali to metal-ion-containing water of interest and then allowing a metal hydroxide to precipitate at pH 8 or higher to produce a suspended substance; (ii) adding a cationic polymeric coagulant having a cation group content of 30 mol% or less to the water obtained in step i and then adding an anionic polymeric coagulant having an anion group content of 10 mol% or more to the resultant product to produce aggregates of the suspended substance; and (iii) forming a sludge blanket and a layer of clarified water from the water obtained in step ii, then obtaining treated water from the layer of the clarified water and obtaining sludge from the sludge blanket. A water treatment device for performing the method.
