Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for detoxifying waste material containing asbestos, and more specifically, to a method for more effectively detoxifying waste asbestos, separated from asbestos-containing waste material, through a carbonation process after acid treating or heat treating same. The method for detoxifying asbestos-containing waste material comprises: a crushing step in which asbestos-containing waste material is crushed and waste asbestos is separated out; an acid treatment step in which the waste asbestos is mixed with acid; a heat treatment step in which a primary carbonated waste asbestos is heated to a temperature of 350-500°C for 1-3 hours; a catalytic treatment step in which the heat treated waste asbestos is cooled and mixed with a catalyst; and a secondary carbonation step in which CO2 is supplied to catalytically-treated waste asbestos while maintaining a temperature of 100-150°C and pressure of 5-8 bar, wherein the catalytic treatment step is performed by using, as the catalyst, an aqueous alkali solution in which at least one among MgO, Mg(OH)2, and NaCl are dissolved in water.
