Abstract:

The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, in a first radio resource control (RRC) signaling, a list of TCI states comprising first and second groups of TCI states; receiving, in a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), one or more sets of transmission configuration indication (TCI) states; receiving, in a downlink control information (DCI), a TCI codepoint indicating a set of one or more first indicated TCI states or one or more second indicated TCI states; identifying, based on the first RRC signaling, the first and second groups of TCI states; identifying, based on the TCI codepoint in the DCI, a set of one or more first and second applicable TCI states; and transmitting or receiving a signal based on an applicable TCI state from the identified set.
