Provided are an apparatus (50, 60) for controlling an air conditioner (70) and a method for controlling the air conditioner (70). In response to an air conditioner control instruction, the method comprises: when a first port through which an air conditioner control instruction is entered is inconsistent with a second port that sends an air conditioner adjustment instruction, determining the priorities of the first port and the second port according to instruction senders; and according to the priorities of the first port and the second port, controlling an air conditioner (70) to maintain or exit the air conditioner control instruction entered through the first port, and to execute or not to execute the air conditioner adjustment instruction sent by the second port. When a conflict occurs in the process of controlling the air conditioner (70) by means of a plurality of ports, the air conditioner (70) makes a reasonable response according to the instruction senders, thereby avoiding the instructions from being chaotically executed or not executed, and improving the degree of intelligence of the air conditioner (70).
